Found in abundance in the Brazil’s Amazon Rainforests, the acai berry is a small berry as big as a grape, not only in size but also in looks, with a little less pulp than grapes. Pronounced as ‘ah-sigh-ee’, the acai berry fruit has been cultivated and used by the natives of Brazil for hundreds of years. The fruit consists of one large seed and is either green or purple in color depending upon its type and maturity. In the small grape-sized acai berry, 90% of the fruit consists of its seed while only the remaining 10% is pulp. When the fruit is properly matured and ready to be harvested, it is plucked in thousands followed by a special procedure to separate pulp from the seed. The result, an edible fruit extract.
Impressed by nutritional properties and health benefits of acai berry, the natives of Brazil included it into their daily diet. They also started to blend acai berry with different juices, sodas, and other beverages.
